Alcugs is an acronym for Alternative Live Compatible Uru Game Server. It was initially called urud (uru daemon), but after studying several alternative names it was finally called Alcugs. Its purpose is to provide a reliable way to play Uru online - which excludes closed-source servers running only on old Linux systems.

The Alcugs Server was originally written by Almlys, received contributions by a'moaca', Khoufou and The.Modificator and is now maintained by diafero.
