"Alcugs" is an acronym for Alternative Live Compatible Uru Game Server. It was initially called urud (uru daemon), but after studying several alternative names it was finally called Alcugs. Its purpose is to provide a reliable way to play Uru online - which excludes closed-source servers running only on old Linux systems.
